The Ring of the Nibelung, Holidays 2024 Cycle II

With his stage festival »Der Ring des Nibelungen«, Richard Wagner created a work that is second to none over a period of more than 25 years. The saga, which lasts many hours and extends over three evenings and one eve, in which Wagner realized his idea of a musical drama, has an almost incomprehensible wealth of ideas and forms of expression, a real »non plus ultra« of European musical theatre.
Dmitri Tcherniakov staged the 2022 tetralogy in a cyclical context, with four premieres in just one week. Now this production is coming back to the stage of the State Opera, it will be performed twice as part of the FESTTAGE. In the year of his 200th birthday, Anton Bruckner's 8th Symphony, also a monumental work from the 19th century, will be performed by Zubin Mehta, the honorary conductor of the Staatskapelle Berlin. The Children's Opera Orchestra is also back at the FESTTAGEN, with music by Antonín Dvořák and a world premiere.
