An Evening Full of Colors

“There are evenings when the clocks are reset …,” wrote Der Standard in 2022 about a concert at Vienna’s Musikverein, where the then 21-year-old Alexander Malofeev caused a sensation as a last-minute substitute. The review even spoke of a “revolution in the piano world.” Celebrated as a child prodigy from an early age, the “lyricist with a penchant for reverie” (Die Presse) impresses not only with brilliant technique, but also with freshness and musical naturalness. Since winning the International Tchaikovsky Competition at the age of 13, the pianist has followed his path with unwavering determination. Yet much has happened since those early triumphs: the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the fact that Malofeev felt compelled to leave his Russian homeland for Berlin in 2022. But nothing could slow his rise — quite the contrary: he has long since established himself on the world’s great concert stages. Personalities such as Daniel Barenboim, himself once celebrated as a child prodigy, have expressed their admiration for his talent at the keyboard. In March 2026, Malofeev’s debut album “Forgotten Melodies” was released by Sony Classical, bringing together well-known and lesser-known works by Russian composers who are particularly close to his heart. At his piano recital in Berlin, featuring works by Couperin, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Liszt, the young artist presents contrasting miniatures and dramatic major works full of energy, color and musical personality.
