The Theater am Potsdamer Platz is a musical theater located in the Tiergarten district of Berlin.

The theater building, designed by architect Renzo Piano at Marlene-Dietrich-Platz, was completed on October 2, 1998, near Potsdamer Platz and opened as a musical theater on June 5, 1999. With 1,754 seats, it is one of the largest theaters in Germany.

Until the end of June 2002, the musical The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which premiered here, was performed. It was a novelty that a Disney musical premiered in Berlin rather than on Broadway or in London's West End. After the insolvency of the musical producer Stella Entertainment AG, the theater was taken over by Stage Entertainment in July 2002. Following a run of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Cats, the profile of the theater was expanded in May 2004 with the European premiere of the New York performance troupe Blue Man Group, creating a performance theater combining rock shows, comedy, percussion spectacle, and action painting. After the Blue Man Group moved to the BlueMax Theater on the opposite side of Marlene-Dietrich-Platz in February 2007, the musical Beauty and the Beast was performed from March to September 2007 at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz. On October 21, 2007, the ABBA musical Mamma Mia! premiered in the presence of former band members Björn Ulvaeus and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The show ran until January 26, 2009. On April 7, 2009, Dirty Dancing premiered at the theater, running until November 2010. From its world premiere on January 13, 2011, to August 28, 2016, the musical Hinterm Horizont, featuring songs by Udo Lindenberg, was performed.

Since the Berlinale 2000, the Theater am Potsdamer Platz has served as the main venue for the Berlin International Film Festival every February. During this time, the theater is referred to as the Berlinale Palast. In addition to the premieres of competition films, the opening film and award ceremony take place here. For this reason, the entire set design of the current musical production is removed, and the theater is transformed into a cinema.

From 2011 to 2013, the Goldene Henne award ceremony was held at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz, having moved from the Friedrichstadt-Palast, where it had been hosted from 1995 to 2010.

The last performance of the musical Hinterm Horizont took place on August 28, 2016. Although the lease, worth three million euros per year, was set to continue until 2022, no subsequent musical was planned, as the tenant Stage Entertainment claimed that subletting the theater temporarily was more profitable than producing a new show.

In October 2019, it was announced that the previous investor and landlord, Brookfield Properties, and the tenant, Stage Entertainment, had agreed with the new prospective tenant, Live Nation from Frankfurt am Main, to terminate the lease from May 2020. Starting in winter 2020, a Berlin-adapted production of Cirque du Soleil was planned, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In November 2024, it was announced that Cirque du Soleil would present its first resident show in Europe with the program Alizé. The show is set to be performed permanently at the Theater am Potsdamer Platz starting in October/November 2025.
